Peter Smyth takes the Horseware/ TRM National GP title at Galway County Show

The main event at Galway County Show was round eight of the Horseware/TRM National Grand Prix League, sponsored by Ashford Farms.

A fantastic 2 day show held at Galway Racecourse in Ballybrit thanks to the permission of Galway Racecourse and Racecourse Manager John Moloney attracted large numbers of competitiors and spectators, with fun for all the family.

Peter Smyth and Corrib House took the top prize with Nigel Kenny's  horse by Harlequin Du Carel, he also picked up 4th prize with Peter Mulrine's Admiran Cassio by Cassini 1, a good day out for the man who made the long journey West from Strabane.

Corrib House is a graduate of the Irish Sporthorse Studbook series and won earlier this year in Balmoral.  Peter said the ground was good and he could trust his horse around the jump off track and that was why he was able to take a stride out to clinch the win.

Local duo Stephen Moore with the 17 year old Merlin's Magic put  up a thrilling challenge to take the second spot with a double clear in 42.68. Stephen was delighted with his horse over a fast and good jump off track and thanked Highfort Stud for their support. Mayo man Cormac Hanley,  who yesterday took the honours in the Galway County leg of the Shavings.ie Connaught Grand Prix with Captain's Magic Touch,  claimed third  with another strong challenge on the Niall Talbot owned Queen Carola, The on form junior rider also took tenth with the Captain Caruso.  Jessica Burke took second place yesterday in the Connaught Grand Prix with Vitesse.

There were 44 starters to take Paul Duffy Jnr's track and 14 made it through to the jump off.   Yet another Galway man Damien Griffin took 6th  place with the very consistent performer Tabby.  He said it was a great venue and track and it was difficult to find ways to make up the time.

The Prizes were presented by Lord Mayor of Galway Donal Lyons, Elaine Carroll from Ashford Farms and Rachel Creaven from TRM.

The HSI Irish Sporthorse Studbook series also took place at Galway County.  The Martin O'Meara owned Curraghgraigue Jack Take Flight took the six year old class and Grainne Davoren's Glenomra Cocoa ridden by Claregalway man Mark Duffy was the winner of the 7 year old final

Galway County Show Committee would like to thank all their sponsors and helpers for their support.
