Hanley wins Kiel Grand Prix
Minimize

Cameron Hanley, Claremorris on SIEC Livello pulled off one of his biggest wins in Showjumping at Kiel North Germany 4 Star, winning the Masters Grand Prix from 40 starters. Owned by Turkey's Sevil Sabanci, 'Livello' went clear through both rounds in the six-horse jump off, and 36-year-old Hanley shaded German ace Franke Sloothaak by a fifth of a second to claim the first prize of an Audi car. He also had a good day on Saturday getting 3rd with Southwind VDL and 4th with SIEC Aristo on whom he won the Welcome Stakes on ThursdayMeanwhile, Tipperary's Denis Lynch was not far behind to claim the third prize of €6,000 with a double clear on Thomas Straumann's nine-year-old gelding 'Tarpan'.

Mayo-born Hanley and 'SIEC Livello' took an individual fourth place for Ireland at the European Show Jumping Championships at Windsor in England in August of this year.

Elsewhere this weekend, a single fence down in the jump-off denied Jessica Kurten victory in the Rolex World Cup competition at Helsinki in Finland, but a sixth place still yielded €6,500 in prize money for the 39-year-old Antrim native. With Lady Georgina Forbes's 'Castle Forbes Cosma', Kurten was one of ten through to the jump-off in the weekend's feature class, but was also one of five not to produce a zero score. The winner's prize of €23,000 and valuable World Cup points went to Switzerland's Daniel Etter and the Westphalian gelding 'Peu a Peu'.

Kurten had a fifth place in this morning's International Speed Final with the bay stallion 'Castle Forbes Vivaldo van het Costerveld', who had also produced a second place in Saturday's Power and Speed competition at the four-star German show.

The Rhineland-based rider was 11th in Saturday's Helsinki Grand Prix, rising 'Castle Forbes Cosma'.

Lennon Shows how Elite he can be with Grand Prix Win in Eglington Round of The Botanica/ShowjumpingIreland Autumn Grand Prix League.

Hallmark Elite and Dermott Lennon pictured here winning the 6 Year Old Championship in the RDS in 2006 has been brought through the ranks by the Former World Champion

Dermott Lennon claimed another big win on the National circuit last night when taking the third leg of the Botanica/ShowjumpingIreland Autumn Grand Prix in Eglinton.

Riding Hallmark Elite, Lennon blitzed the field to leave them lying in his wake with Woods Rosbotham's Lord Byron Z gelding.  The winner of the Dublin Stakes in the RDS, Hallmark Elite also made up part of the Nations Cup team that travelled to Calgary in September and is undoubtedly turning into Lennon's main mount.  Their time of 37.28 was good enough to take the main share in the €5,000 on offer from the Eglinton Equestrian Club.

Although Conor Swail spent most of the summer travelling Europe, he is now home and taking a big part in the Autumn Grand Prix.  Following a sixth place finish with Vicktor R in last week's leg in Kernan's, Swail put himself firmly on the leader board with a fine second place finish with the very exciting Cara Touche.

Donegal rider Tracey Gallagher took the next place in the line up with Margaret Gallagher's Thats Alright.  The were the final combination to produce a double clear and although their time was slow, they did enough to secure third place.

Although the league table remains unaltered at the top with Trevor Breen remaining in pole position with Paul O'Shea now just a single point behind following his fifth place finish last night.  Conor Swail was a big mover up the table and moves into third four points off Breen.

The next leg of the Botanica/ShowjumpingIreland Autumn Grand Prix League takes place next Sunday (18th) in Cavan Equestrian Centre.

O'SHEA WINS IN KERNAN'S AS BREEN EXTENDS HIS LEAD AT THE TOP

Paul O'Shea claimed the second leg of the Botanica/ShowjumpingIreland Autumn Grand Prix League in James Kernan's Equestrian Centre last night.

Riding Paul Clarke and Michael Walsh's Day Dream St Ghyvan Z, O'Shea firmly put himself on the leaderboard when posting the fastest of four combinations in the jump off.  Although also making it through with Primo De Revel, O'Shea decided not to take part in the second round on Michael Hayden's gelding.

O'Shea still managed to do just enough with his other mount when breaking the beam in a time of 30.74.  Having finished third in the ShowjumpingIreland National Grand Prix League, O'Shea now sits in second place on 10 points just behind league leader Trevor Breen.

Edward Little slotted into second with David Prentice's Kalvinretto.  Little recorded several good performances near the end of the National Grand Prix League including a fourth place in the final leg at the Newcastle Horse Show.  His double clear in a time of 32.98 was good enough for second almost three seconds adrift of O'Shea.

League Leader Trevor Breen collected more points last night to extend his lead at the top with a fourth place on his Cavan Autumn Grand Prix winner, Adventure De Kannan.  After his win in the opening leg, Breen stated that he may now have a crack at the league title and no doubt last night's second place finish will strengthen that cause.  A pole down in the second round in a time of 31.33 left him just behind home rider Tom Hearne with James Kernan's Pico Bellos Stal Ham.

Breen now lies on 14 points, 4 points ahead of O'Shea ahead of the Northern Ireland Indoor Championships in Eglinton this weekend.
