The 28th Annual National Balmoral Championships has attracted some of the top names in Irish show jumping for four days of top class competition.  The big class in the main arena today was the Horseware/TRM National Grand Prix with a prize fund of €4,000 kindly supported by Showjumping Ireland.

A large field of 71 starters took on Steve Williams testing track.  From 26 clear rounds 25 combinations went through to the jump off, Capt Michael Kelly choosing to leave his horse Annestown for another day.

It was Captain Michael Kelly and Dumiller Lough, an 11 year old bay gelding by Heartbreaker who saw off the competition to take the top prize with a foot perfect round in 33.93.  Galway’s Tom Slattery with Lady Georgina Forbes owned Castleforbes Paddington was the runner up and Greg Broderick with Rincoola Black Adder took third.

From Neighbouring Co. Down 24 year old Rebecca McGoldrick enjoyed a very successful day with two top ten placings in the class, 4th with Cuba Libre and 7th with Fleur IV.

Show Director Ray Buchanan is delighted with how the show is going. “In 2013 we moved to the stunning Balmoral Park and staged our championships at our new home for the very first time in 27 years of competition. Months of planning and fine tuning have been invested into ensuring the 2014 National Balmoral Championships are the biggest equestrian event in Northern Ireland”

The action continues tomorrow so don’t miss a fantastic family fun day out watching the very best show jumping right on your doorstep with plenty of other attractions.  The National Balmoral Championship has everything on offer with fantastic shopping in the Balmoral Equestrian Shopping Village, entertainment and dining as well as the Horseware/TRM Premier Grand Prix tomorrow with a prize fund of €10,000 on offer.
