Michael Duffy Takes First Grand Prix Win in Cavan with Murch

Mayo rider, Michael Duffy (17) claimed his first ever Grand Prix win when taking the second leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League at Cavan this evening.

Riding Sean Murphy's Murchu, Duffy claimed a memorable double of wins having won the prestigious Cavan Indoor Derby on Friday with the same horse.  He went on to beat of eight combinations in tonight's Jump Off beating off some very strong competition over Peter Gillespie's track with Duffy leaving all the fences intact in both rounds.

In winning the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix tonight, Michael Duffy ensured that he also took home the Leading Rider Prize for the Show.

Army Equitation School rider, Capt. Michael Kelly slotted into second with the Minister for Defence's Mo Chroi while Damien Griffin was next best with Tabby.

National Hunt Jockey, Robert Power was last to go with Doonaveragh O One but had the first fence on the floor which granted Michael Duffy with his debut win.

The line up was completed by Shane Goggins and Thomas O'Brien, who took fifth and sixth with Ardcolum Duke and Ullrich.

Following tonight's second leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League, Michael Duffy moves alongside Dermott Lennon at the top of the leader board with 10 points each while fellow Army Equitation School riders, Capt. Brian Curran Cournane and Capt. Michael Kelly lie in second place with 8 points following the opening two legs.

The next leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League takes place next Sunday in Kernan's Equestrian Centre in Crossmaglen, County Armagh.
