Vincent Byrne claimed his first win in the TRM/Horseware National Grand Prix League at Cavan Equestrian Centre with James Weldon's Mr Rockefeller.
The pair have had a very productive year so far having won their first Senior Grand Prix when winning the Spring Tour at Maryville in March. Having produced the son of Ard VDL Douglas himself, Byrne recorded wins in the National Championships as a 6 Year Old and several other Age Competitions around the country throughout his younger years.
The Kilkenny rider finished almost a second clear of his nearest rival when stopping the clock in 43.96 with all the poles still in the cups to take the lions share of €4,000 which is sponsored by the host venue.
Tholm Keane has been a winner on two occasions already this season with Ronan Tynan's evergreen stallion, Warrenstown You 2 and they came close to a hat trick of wins when slotting into second on Friday. The pair recorded another double in a time of 44.86.
Edward Doyle is another rider that has had a good season with Samgemjee and although they have yet to win a Grand Prix, they have been placed in several National Grand Prixs and Premier Series. They took third this week with a time of 45.01 and they now lie in joint fourth place in the league.
Veteran campaigner, Merlins Magic is having another good season this year, but with a new rider in Stephen Moore. The pair were placed in a couple of leg of the Spring Tour and also took a placing the National Grand Prix at Barnadown, Galway and now Cavan. Moore appears to have found an excellent partner and recorded a fine double clear round in 45.35.
Sophie Dalm and Capt. Geoff Curran completed the lime up with Vaillant S and Mullaghbane with both recording foot perfect rounds.
Greg Broderick still holds a commanding lead as he bids to regain his Title and having finished tenth in this leg, he is now on 50 points, 22 clear of Tholm Keane.
