Frank Curran takes Eglinton Grand Prix as Michael Kelly takes Lead

Frank Curran won the fourth leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix at the very popular Northern Indoor Championships in Eglinton on Sunday evening beating off a strong challenge in the jump off headed by Capt. Michael Kelly who now takes over the lead in the League.

Seven combinations made it through to the second round in the Grand Prix in front of a packed grandstand in the Eglinton Equestrian Centre in County Derry in the €5,000 class sponsored by the Equestrian Club.

Curran was the only rider to manage a clean sheet however over the two rounds with the ever consistent New World.  Owned by the Bovean Stables, New World has been a regular winner for Curran, especially over the last 24 months having won Spring Tour Classes, Premier Series Grand Prix and the Autumn Grand Prix now in Eglinton.  Although, his time of 37.81 was beaten, Curran left all the fences standing to take home the lions share of the €5,000 on offer.

Despite having a fence down in the jump off, Capt. Michael Kelly moves to the top of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League with a second place finish on the very exciting Drumiller Lough.  Kelly stopped the clock in 37.50 to take second place and following his second place in Cavan at the end of September, he now lies on 16 points, three ahead of Frank Curran who moves to second place on the leaderboard.

Daniel Coyle and the prolific Uptown Girl had to settle for third place this time round having incurred four faults in the first round (top 25% made it to Round two), and despite going clear in the Jump off, Coyle finished on a total of four in a time of 38.01.

Peter Smyth was next best with Almiro, also finishing with four faults but in the much slower time of 52.48.

Kelda Morgan and Canadian rider, Rebecca McGoldrick completed the line up with George and Alvarez, both completing with eight faults over the two rounds.

With four legs remaining, there is still a lot to play for in the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League with just six points separating the top five in the leaderboard.

The next leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League takes place next Sunday in Cavan Equestrian Centre.
