National Events


RDS Requirements 2018

  • All 128cm pony riders need to have their BAR 1 signed off and returned to their regional rep by the 30th of April
  • All 138cm, 148cm, COH and young riders need to have their BAR 2 signed off and have attended an assessment by the 30th of April

Cut-off Date for Mackey 5 Bar Certification

  • All athletes must have obtained their Mackey Bar certification by 30th of April 2018.
  • All regions will be running a final assessment on Saturday 21st of April or Sunday 22nd of April 2018 in order to have athletes fully compliant and on the system by the 30th of April.

National Training Bursary Clinic

The National Training Committee are delighted to announce that the prestigious three-day Bursary Clinic will take place this year in Maryville Stables, Co. Cork on the 10th, 11th & 12th July.

The National Training Bursary Clinic is a three day all expenses paid, Bursary Training Clinic for Athletes over 16 years of age who wish to avail of top-class training with some of Ireland’s best Coaches.  Athletes compete at a Selection Day for a chance to avail of this fantastic opportunity.

If successful, Athletes bring two horses (jumping at 1.20 or above) to the clinic, and each of the three days are intensive training in Flatwork and Jumping.  

Each year, we like to have guest lecturers/Coach for our Athletes.  In the past, we have had palates classes, Physiotherapists, PRO Consultants, Performance Coaches & Bankers to broaden the experience of the Athletes.

Criteria for selection 2018

  • Open to SJI Members:  Athletes must be 16 years of age or over at time of Clinic
  • Athletes wishing to avail of Bursary Places must attend a National Selection Day
  • Provisional Date for National Assessment 12/13th May (Venue TBC)
  • Guaranteed number of places for Bursary Award 24
  • One Bursary will be available for Award for either Athlete who was unable to attend Selection Day (i.e. on International Duty – Abroad – Ill with Doctors cert provided) These Athletes must apply in writing no later than 10 days after Selection Day
  • Athletes wishing to attend the clinic, who do not comply with above, may apply to the Training Committee for a fee-paying place.

Bursary Clinic Includes:

  • Three days intensive Coaching: -  2 Flatwork and 2 Jumping sessions per day
  • Other Activities:   Stable management; Lunging; & Guest Lecturers
  • Also Included in Bursary
  • Stabling for two horses for 3 days (Athletes to provide own feed)
  • Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner for 3 days
  • Mackey Ireland Jacket.

Mackey Ireland continue to be Title Sponsor of our Training Bursary Clinic, and without their Sponsorship, Support and encouragement, we would not be able to host such a worthwhile Clinic.


Seeking Tenders for the SJI National Training Bursary

The SJI National training committee are now accepting tenders from coaches interested in coaching at the 2018 National Training Bursary. The bursary is provisionally scheduled to take place from Tuesday the 10th of July to Thursday the 12th of July in Maryville Stables. Coaches must be a HSI level 2 coach or above and must be an active SJI member. The following details should be included in your tender:

  • Full Name
  • Level of Qualification
  • A brief breakdown of why you would like to coach at the bursary and why you think you should be selected.
  • Expected fee of coaching at the bursary

Development Squad 2018

  • There are some places available in the Leinster Region’s Development Squad for 2018.
  • The squad is currently divided into three to accommodate the geographical location of the members. These are Mullingar, Wexford and Knightsfield in Kildare.
  • This squad requires the Athlete to commit to training on a monthly basis for the current year.
  • The purpose of the Development Squad is to enable the riders to improve their skills and therefore to be more successful in competition. Develop a greater understanding of course design and rules and regulations of Show jumping as well as animal welfare.
  • To be eligible to join the development squad in Leinster you must be jumping 90cms.

This development Squad is open to all Leinster members, Children, Young riders and Adults.

If the places available are over scribed, an assessment day will be held.
