Broderick does it again
It was another good weekend for Greg Broderick, as he recorded his second win in the TRM/Horse Sport Ireland New Heights Champions Series at Portmore today (29th April). Riding Mary Ellen De Ruschi’s, 10 year-old gelding, Duco (KWPN) he delivered the only double clear of the class in a time of 39.83, to claim the winner’s share of the €10,000 on offer. For the second week, Mary Ellen De Ruschi’s was awarded the owners prize of the Tipperary Crystal engraved vase and bottle of champagne.

It was another competitive class, with 30 combinations going to post, and from those eight contested the second round.

By Vigaro and out of Upperlaine, Duco made his appearance on the National circuit with Darragh Ryan in Warrington and before this, he was campaigned by Broderick in Vejer de la Frontera CSI4* in March. On his return to Ireland, he has moved up to 1.50m level with ease.

Carrying four faults in the first round, Nicholas Butler and Vimminka made no mistake second time out, as they delivered a clear in 36.04 for second place.

Australian rider, Jake Hunter put in a foot perfect performance in the first round with the Sandra Duffy owned Cento Blue, but four faults in the second round in a time of 40.17, saw him take third place. Hunter also finished as the highest placed young rider and took home a €100 TRI voucher for his efforts.

Placed sixth in the National Grand Prix in The Meadows, Tholm Keane and BMH Big Time once again featured in the line-up. The pairing completed the first round on zero faults, but added four to their score in the second round in a time of 40.17, to share third place with Hunter.

Young rider, Ciaran Nallon featured in the line-up for the second week, having taken second place in Portmore. Riding Arkino Z , the Mayo rider clocked up four faults in the first round, but a clean sheet in the second round in a time of 41.05, saw him take fifth.

Captain Geoff Curran, also added to his leaderboard tally, as he completed the top six line-up. Riding Hallowberry Cruz, Curran was unlucky to incur four faults in each round. A fast time of 37.70 however, saw him add four points to his leaderboard standings.
