Written Declaration update
Currently, 138 out of 368 MEPs have signed Written Declaration 54/2009 calling for a review of the Transport Regulation. This is a positive start but time is running out and more signatures are needed urgently!
A big thank you to our pro-active supporters for taking the time to write to their regional representatives, it is because of your action that they are supporting the end to long-distance transportation of horses to slaughter in Europe.
However, we are still a long way off the target of 368, so if any MEPs in your region are yet to sign, please, please keep up the pressure and encourage friends and family across Europe to do the same.
At least half of all MEPs must sign this Declaration before 21st January 2010. If this is achieved, then our voice in Europe will become stronger and we will be a step closer to ending these journeys for good. However if the Declaration is not supported by 50% of MEPs it will fall, weakening the case to stop these cruel and unnecessary journeys and helping those who oppose better welfare conditions for these horses.
We are really grateful to the MEPs who have listened to their constituents and signed the Declaration but there are many who are yet to sign. Template letters are available in all European languages, visit www.worldhorsewelfare.org/takeaction to learn more about how you can help and to download a letter.
