Smyth Dominates Kernans While Lee Finds Success In Maryville

This weekend saw the sixth and seventh legs of our TopSpec Autumn Grand Prix Series get underway.

From one end of the country in Maryville, Co. Cork up to Kernans Equestrian Centre, Co. Down competitors chose their venue and headed off in in pursuit of leader board points.

Jonathan Smyth dominated the Botanica sponsored leg at Kernans Equestrian securing all three top spots with Charlton Clio (34.43), Mulvin Lui (35.16) and Ping Ball (36.28) respectively. All three horses featured prominently in last seasons series and once again produced foot perfect double clear rounds to give Smyth more points on the leader board. Smyth is now top of the leaderboard with Charlton Clio on twenty points, closely followed by Philip Gaw and Ardnacashel Coovelle on eighteen points.

Robert Harrison also saw a successful evening at Kernans securing fourth, fifth and eight placings. The fastest of these three horses was Lil Wayne, stopping the clock in a time of 36.60, with Landlystes Rubina just over a second slower with a double clear in 37.83.

Abby Morton steered Delton to sixth position leaving all poles secure in a time of 39.73.

Rapheal Lee, an avid supporter of the Connaught Grand Prix Leagues and the overall winner of the Sven Hadley Horse Transport 1.35m was the top rider at Maryville Stables coming finishing in the top position with Captain Marko in a time of 42.51. Lee also finished in fifth position with Oilean Dunlop stopping the clock in 45.05.

2018 Runner Up of the TRM/Horse Sport Ireland New Heights Chmapions Series, Captain Geoff Curran continued on with the successful season riding Glengarra Wood who left all poles standing and crossed the finish line in a time of 43.14 to secure second position.

Another top competitior throughout the National Grand Prix circuit this year, Francis Connors steered Captiol Cruis into third position having a double clear with a time of 44.97.

County Kerry’s Maria Counihan and Killerisk Minnie have found themselves in the lineup at Maryville once again this season finishing in fourth place with a time of 45.05. The combination finished third in the Munster Grand Prix Series earlier in the year.

Jessica Burke, who has won the 1.35m leg of this tour already this season on Norway Venture has secured leaderboard points with Express Trend finishing sixth with a time of 49.90.

This combination also won the National Grand Prix at Cóilog earlier in the season.

Next stop on this tour is Eglington, Northern Indoor Championships on Friday 12th October (1.35m) and Sunday 14th October (1.40m).
