ShowjumpingIreland Statement Relating to the Five Star Tour Final and Irish Breeders Classic Date Change ***

Statement Date 27th July 2022 *** ShowjumpingIreland Statement Relating to the Five Star Tour Final and Irish Breeders Classic Date Change *** Tour Final Show to take place 2nd – 4th Sept 2022 @ Mullingar EC. ShowjumpingIreland wishes to inform all ShowjumpingIreland members and interested parties of the factual events surrounding the unfortunate decision of the Five Star Tour Organiser to cancel the Final of this well supported and popular league. ShowjumpingIreland have at all times encouraged and offered to support the 5* Tour organiser to run the final as planned. In spite of the withdrawal of the organiser from this event ShowjumpingIreland can assure all members that have already qualified or are currently trying to qualify for this event that they will still be provided with a like for like event at Mullingar EC from 2 nd - 4 th Sept 2022 and that ShowjumpingIreland will also seek to ensure that all prize funds etc remain in place and honoured. On 18th July the organising committee of The Irish Breeders Classic contacted ShowjumpingIreland to request permission to change the date the event would take place on from 25th -28th August 2022 to the 1st to 4th September 2022. The reason for this request was due to the following, Millstreet Horse Show 10th - 14th Aug 2022 had recently published their schedule which includes a multitude of classes including very significant young horse classes with considerable prize funds and which have multiple qualifiers pre the final days round. The RDS Dublin Horse Show would then take place from 17th Aug - 21st Aug 2022, this show again has very significant young horse classes which have multiple qualifiers pre final. The concern raised by many riders, owners, producers, and sponsors to the organising committee of The Irish Breeders Classic was that it was felt this amount of competition without any rest week would be damaging to all the shows and indeed to the animals and staff working with the young horses was such a schedule to happen. ShowjumpingIreland having taken into consideration these concerns moved to address these and on foot of the IBC submission, this action then caused concern to the organiser of the 5*Tour and Final who corresponded with SJI with these concerns. Both submissions were fully and thoroughly considered and a meeting between all parties was facilitated by Showjumping Ireland (A trading name of The Show Jumping Association of Ireland) SJI with the hope of addressing the concerns outlined by both organising committees. This meeting was facilitated without any delay on Monday 25th July on foot of email received the previous Friday 22nd July 2022. These concerns as noted were both on welfare grounds primarily from IBC and related to the Financial viability of the 5* Tour Final. To remedy these concerns from the outset SJI felt that the IBC date change could address the welfare concerns as outlined. To address the financial impact as outlined in detail as part of the 5* Tour correspondence SJI again reaffirmed its commitment of €5,000.00 to the 2022 Final, support as it had also provided of €8,000.00 in 2021. This commitment is still in place and SJI hope to secure all funding intended for the finals is provided and that any additional funding required can be requested from SJI Resources. To address the additional financial concerns as outlined SJI outlined that it had checked the cross over in 2021 where no clash occurred and the number of members who had attended both events was 16 although over 750 members had attended each of the events. To help allay any fears from the 5* Tour organiser SJI offered to potentially underwrite any loss of qualified entrants to the now moved IBC, this would insulate the 5*Tour finals from any entry loss. To further assist IBC Committee offered to provide Financial or Sponsorship assistance to 5*Tour Finals. ShowjumpingIreland wish to make it very clear that every effort has been made to ensure the support of both events and to ensure that SJI members who look forward to both events and had planned around both were not impacted. ShowjumpingIreland wishes to again emphasise that it has offered all resources at its disposal to ensure the viability of both events and that ShowjumpingIreland has appealed to both events to run and not to create disappointment to any members by the cancelation of either event. ShowjumpingIreland and the venues concerned are extremely grateful to the organisers of these leagues/series and events and wish to commend them for their efforts and energy, SJI will always try to offer as much assistance as possible to those who work to develop and improve the sport and will as always try to represent the best interests of all members and ensure that they have a safe and enjoyable sport. Where 5* Tour has now declined the sincere offers proffered by ShowjumpingIreland and has cancelled ShowjumpingIreland can assure all members that the event will still take place to provide for the members who have planned for this event and will work to ensure that the members are not at a loss as a result of any actions taken outside the control of ShowjumpingIreland.
